Cheryl Lynn Wheeler

Cheryl Lynn Wheeler, 63, of Wheelersburg, OH passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving children on Friday, August 8, 2025 after her hard-fought battle against cancer. Cheryl was born March 2nd, 1962 to the late Sonnie Kitchen and Carol Turner.

Cheryl’s passion was caring for others, which showed in her work as a nurse. She spent many years working for the late James Mullins, M.D. then at SOMC Portsmouth Family Practice until her retirement in 2024. Many special coworkers became her very best friends and were like family to us all. She loved all of her patients, many of whom were so thoughtful during her illness and she appreciated each and every kind gesture.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Wheeler whom she met in High School and married in 1981. She was also preceded in death by her father, Sonnie Kitchen and mother, Carol Turner. Her sister, Traci Apel and nephew, Jeffrey Apel.

Cheryl is survived by her three children, Meagon (Jeremy) Riggs, Matthew (Trevor) Wheeler and Caitlyn (Jeff Walters) Wheeler: Her grandbabies Camdon, Khloe and Karissah Riggs, Gage, Ava and Liam Walters.

Cheryl is also survived by her “favorite brother ”,Scott Kitchen, whom she enjoyed attending many sporting events with. Nieces, Mykal Maxie and Bea Bradley. She will also be greatly missed by her fur babies.

Cheryl’s greatest blessings in life were her children and grandchildren. Being “Mamaw” was her biggest joy. You could always hear her cheering loudly at their sporting events. She always made every birthday and holiday special, especially Christmas and her annual Easter egg hunts. She will always be remembered for her love of The Ohio State Buckeyes, a dedicated Wheelersburg Pirate fan- spending Friday nights under the lights at her spot on the hill or traveling to away games near and far. Her love of Elvis Presley meant you never change the station in her car. Myrtle Beach trips, Dirty Dons, Waffle House, and TJ Maxx will always be a part of her legacy as well.

In true Cheryl fashion, she pre planned her services to take the burden off her children. She would like family and friends to gather for a special viewing on Wednesday, August 13th from 11:00-1:00 at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, OH. Graveside services will be private for family only at Memorial Burial Park.
