Child Abuse Investigation After Baby Admitted to Hospital with Multiple Fractures

A Columbus hospital contacted Portsmouth Police just before 4 am to report a possible case of child abuse involving a 7-month-old Portsmouth baby. A social worker from the hospital said the baby’s parents brought him in with a leg fracture.

Medical personnel discovered multiple old fractures all over the child’s body. The social worker said the hospital would run tests to rule out any chance that a medical condition was behind the injuries.

Officers contacted Scioto County Children Services, who informed them they had already heard from the hospital. Detectives were notified about the report.
