Police found a child in a filthy and dangerous living situation but CPS decided not to remove the child and another child is found wandering alone at night. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Angry Ex
A woman contacted police just after 2 pm to report her ex had attempted to bust out her car window with his fist.
He also called the police and claimed she had moved out and stolen his belongings. Police told her it was a civil matter.
Troubled Man
Just after 2 pm, police met up with personnel from a mental health facility to deal with a man who had allegedly barricaded himself in his home and was threatening to kill someone.
Since he had no warrants, police felt they could not take him into custody. The mental health personnel said they would attempt to probate the man without him being present.
Toddler Found Wandering Alone
Just after 11:30 pm, police responded to Wayne Avenue for a report of a toddler out alone. A resident said the child just showed up at their door and they could not locate an adult.
Police checked around and discovered an unlocked door. The toddler had been asleep in bed with its mother and managed to get up and open the front door. Police returned the child to its mom.
Med Flight Called In After Accident
Med Flight was called in after a crash on Dorman Drive just after 2:30 pm. The air ambulance landed at SOMC and the scene was cleared with the hour.
Under the Influence
Police assisted probation officers with picking up drug users with open warrants. The suspects were taken into custody and the suspected drugs were sent to BCI for testing.
Stolen Vehicle Wrecked
Just after 5:30 pm, a caller reported a stolen vehicle from Walnut Street. The Ohio State Patrol had already discovered the wrecked vehicle.
Police, Code Enforcement, CPS Team Up To Help Child
Police officers, code enforcement, and CPS teamed up to help a child living in a dangerous situation.
Police and code enforcement helped rescue a child from a scary situation just after 8:30. The house was filthy with dog feces everywhere and exposed wiring.
No one at the home knew the child’s date of birth or where its mother was located. Police contacted CPS and code enforcement arranged to have vehicles towed from the scene.
There was an open warrant for a woman at the scene and police issued a summons for court. CPS allowed the mother to take the child as she assured them she was moving to a new, safe location.
There were no charges filed against the mom.
