Animal Abuse Reported on Kent Street

Officers responded to an animal abuse complaint on Kent Street at 2:09 pm. A caller said he heard a dog yelping and someone hitting it and yelling at it. 

When police arrived, the animal’s owner admitted he did spank the dog for peeing in its dog cage.

The officer said the animal appeared fine and there was no sign of abuse or neglect. The owner was advised of the complaint.

Suspicious Activity

A caller reported a woman swinging a shovel at a man on 6th Street just after 3 pm. By the time police arrived, the pair had gone inside the residence. No one answered the door.

Speedway employees reported a man who’d been barred from the store on the property at 3 pm. Police issued a summons for criminal trespass and he left the area.

Child in Vehicle During Police Pursuit

Police say a child was in a vehicle during a police pursuit. Officers followed a gold Chevy down Harding onto Elliot to Swauger to Dutch Ridge and back onto Swauger towards Highland Bend before they were able to successfully stop it just north of Swauger. 

Police took two people into custody. There was a child in the vehicle. 

Under the Influence

Police arrested a man with a history of violent tendencies stumbling around outside the Family Dollar just before 6 pm. He was booked at the Scioto County Jail. 

Just after 11 pm, an employee at Frank & Steins Lounge reported an apparently intoxicated woman attempting to start a fight on the premises. Police took her into custody. 

At 8:35, a witness reported someone passed out on the bench in front of the Kroger pharmacy. The person was gone by the time police arrived. 

Gunshots or Fireworks?

Just after 8 pm, a caller reported gunshots on 14th Street. Officers discovered the noise was actually fireworks. 

An hour later, police responded to High Street for another report of gunshots. Officers checked the area and found no sign of gunfire. 

At 11:40 pm. A Robinson Avenue caller reported rapid gunshots near her home. Several officers investigated the report but found no evidence of shots fired. Witnesses told police it was just fireworks. 

Adventures in Babysitting

A babysitter contacted police just before 3 pm to complain that one of her charges kept trying to get out the door and had almost busted out a window.

She was not able to contact his mother. Police spoke to the boy who agreed to go to bed for the night.
