A girl reports a sex assault by another child and a man claims he’s being held hostage. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief Daily Briefing.
Child Reports Sex Assault
Just after 10 am, a caseworker contacted police to report that a little girl reported she was sexually assaulted 2 years ago by another girl on Swauger Valley Road.
The incident was also reported to Scioto County Children Services.
Suspicious Activity
- At 10:40 am, a caller reported people were going in and out of 2 condemned houses near 5th and Bloom. Police discovered people were actually working on the homes.
- Just before 11 am, a witness reported an empty Wayne Avenue apartment was broken into. The caller saw a man flee the scene. Police discovered 4 missing smoke alarms and a broken window latch.
- A Gay Street caller reported a man passed out behind the wheel of a gold car Gay Street near Beltone Hearing. Police said the man was using the business’s WiFi and they advised him to move along.
- A 14th Street caller reported a suspicious black vehicle had been sitting there for three weeks. PPD left a message for the owner and an officer planned to follow up later.
- Officers responded to 8th Street for a report of a shirtless man with a dog screaming at women and chasing them around the roadway. Police said the man was not abusing the dog and wasn’t really yelling at women, he just speaks loudly.
Under the Influence
A Williams Street caller contacted police at 5:14 pm to report people shooting up in a vehicle. Officers detained a man and a woman on the scene and arranged for their vehicle to be towed.
Man Says He’s Being Held Hostage
A man contacted police at 1:34 pm and claimed he was being held hostage by his girlfriend and her son. He said he needed to go to the hospital but they refused to let him have his oxygen.
He later called back and said they left the house.
Meanwhile at Speedway
A Speedway employee contacted officers at 3:40 pm to report a shoplifter took a charger and sunglasses and was now in the bathroom. Police took information for a report.
Hey That’s My Stuff
Just before 5 pm, a Findlay Street caller reported a stolen wallet. Police took information for a report.
Four Wheelin’ Frenzy
- Just after 6 pm, an Auburn Avenue Caller reported kids riding four-wheelers in the street. Police checked the area but didn’t see anyone.
- About 20 minutes later an SUV struck a man on a four-wheeler near Giovanni’s on 11th Street. Police issued a citation and took information for a report.
