Cincinnati, Ohio saw 18 people shot and 4 killed when gunfire rang out in multiple locations around the city.
Officers responded to the first report just after midnight in the Avondale neighborhood and found 21-year-old Antonio Blair with gunshot injuries. Blair was transported to University Hospital. He was soon pronounced dead.
At about 2:15 a.m., officers answered a report of shots being fired in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. In this shooting, 10 people were shot. One died at the scene. Another victim passed away at the hospital. Those people were identified in a press release as 34-year-old Robert Rogers and 30-year-old Jaquiez Grant.
3 more people were shot in Walnut Hills.
Local news reported that the shootings happened within 60 to 90 minutes of each other.
Assistant Police Chief Paul Neudigate stated in a press conference that they “ seem to be separate independent incidents but horrific and tragic.”
Police didn’t provide details about the fourth fatal shooting but verified that it occurred on the west end of Cincinnati.
No suspect or suspects have been identified.
Before the fourth shooting occurred, Cincinnati Police Assitant Chief Neudigate had told reporters that this was one extremely violent night in the city of Cincinnati”. He went on to say, “ Why? That’s going to be the question.”
Shortly after that statement, the fourth shooting occurred.
In a follow-up interview with the press on Sunday (08/16/20) afternoon, the chief called these shootings “unacceptable”.
