Citizen Captures Car Thief in the Act

Portsmouth Police Officers headed to 5th Street after a caller said he caught a man in the act of stealing his car and managed to pin him to the ground.  

Portsmouth has experienced a rash of vehicle thefts and car break-ins in the past month including two incidents where the thieves allegedly brandished weapons when homeowners caught them in the act. 

PPD took a man into custody and impounded several items. They booked Christopher Bishop into the Scioto County Jail on a theft charge.

Portsmouth Police checked out more reports of vehicle break-ins 

Just before 4 am, callers reported someone got into two vehicles on 5th Street. Police took information for a report.  

Auto Stylz reported that someone broke into a vehicle on their lot overnight around 8 am.  

Westwood Drive neighbors spotted a suspicious vehicle, a black car with one white door and bicycle sticking out of the trunk, cruising around their street, but officers were unable to locate it.  

Just after 9 am, Star Adult Workshop contacted the police to report someone had broken into multiple vehicles. Officers took information for a report.
