Comment Period Open for Shawnee State Forest Bridge Rehabilitations
The Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9’s Planning Department, the district’s Environmental Office is seeking public input for six (6) bridge rehabilitation in Scioto County.

SCI-Shawnee State Forest Bridges (PID: 107284) – It is proposed to rehabilitate six (6) bridges and perform maintenance activities at bridge locations within Shawnee State Forest. The project is located in rural areas of Washington and Nile Townships.

Abutments Definition In engineering, abutment refers to the substructure at the ends of a bridge span or dam whereon the structure’s superstructure rests or contacts.

The first structure is located at SCI-1SF-0194. The existing structure is a single-span bridge with steel beams, timber deck, asphalt wearing surface and stone wall abutments. The existing structure’s stone abutments and wing walls will be faced with concrete. The structure was built in 1981.

The second structure is located at SCI-1SF-0275. The existing structure is a single-span bridge with steel beams, timber deck, asphalt wearing surface and stone wall abutments. The existing structure’s stone abutments and wing walls will be faced with concrete. The structure was built in 1979.

The third structure is located at SCI-2SF-0034. The existing structure is a single-span bridge with steel beams, timber deck, asphalt wearing surface and stone wall abutments. The existing structure’s stone abutments and wing walls will be faced with concrete. The structure was built in 1975.

The fourth structure is located at SCI-2SF-1247. The existing structure is a single-span bridge with timber beams, timber deck, asphalt wearing surface and stone wall abutments. The existing structure’s stone abutments and wing walls will be faced with concrete. The structure was built in 1982.

The fifth structure is located at SCI-2SF-1295. The existing structure is a single-span bridge with timber beams, timber deck, asphalt wearing surface and stone wall abutments. The existing structure’s stone abutments and wing walls will be faced with concrete. The project includes rock channel protection (RCP) at the inlet of the structure. The structure was built in 1982.

The sixth structure is located at SCI-14SF-0179. The existing structure is a single-span bridge with timber beams, timber deck, asphalt wearing surface and stone wall abutments. RCP will be placed at the inlet of the structure. The structure was built in 1983.

No homes or businesses will be removed by the project.

The roadways will be closed for the duration of the project.

The funding for the project is 100% State. The environmental commitment date is 2/21/2020. The project is currently expected to be awarded 6/1/2020.
