Leaders of Portsmouth’s 14th Street Community Center have killed a plan to expand the gymnasium, add bleachers, and expand services.
According to Scioto County Commissioner Scottie Powell, the group encountered rising costs and issues with the fact that their land abuts some federal property. “They have come back to this board and said it doesn’t look like that project is as feasible as we thought it was two years ago.”
The organization asked that the grant money allocated toward the gym be spent on a project to upgrade the 17th Street Learning Center to make it more welcoming and open.
