Just days after hopeful news about her recovery, Scioto County Commissioner Cathy Coleman has taken a heartbreaking turn for the worse. Her family and fellow commissioners have confirmed that following a second surgery, Coleman is now facing life-threatening complications.
In a deeply emotional statement shared by her granddaughter and echoed by the Scioto County Commissioners, the family reported:
“After a day of better news and much hope, unfortunately Nana has taken a serious turn for the worse. Mom and I had a consult with the surgeons tonight after her second surgery and were told that Nana has multiple issues with her bowels… all very bad. On top of that, she has pneumonia in both lungs.
The next 24–48 hours are crucial and will determine if she will be here with us or will go home to Heaven. She needs much prayer and a miraculous work of God. We are in complete shock. This has been a roller coaster and we can’t wrap our heads around this. It’s heartbreaking. We love you so much, Nana.”
The community, which has rallied around Commissioner Coleman since her horrific accident, is once again being called to lift her up in prayer.
A Fight That’s Touched the Entire County
Commissioner Coleman, 71, was critically injured in a crash in Kentucky while on a simple errand with her beloved dog, Packer, who tragically did not survive. Since then, she has battled a long list of serious injuries, including a shattered femur, punctured lung, broken ribs, and a concussion. Despite a recent positive update that she was off the ventilator and showing signs of improvement, this latest development marks a major setback.
A County Still Hoping
Messages of support have poured in from across Scioto County and beyond. Local churches, officials, and residents have flooded social media with prayer requests and heartfelt messages. The hashtags #PrayForCathy and #SpeakLife remain strong symbols of a community’s love and faith.
Now, with the next 48 hours being critical, Coleman’s loved ones are asking everyone to come together once again in powerful, united prayer.
“She needs much prayer and a miraculous work of God,” her granddaughter wrote. “Thank you guys so much.”
The Scioto County Commissioners continue to stand with her family and ask the public to respect their privacy while offering their full support.
As this difficult journey continues, one thing is clear: Cathy Coleman is deeply loved—and she’s not facing this fight alone.
