Condoms, Saws, and a 2 A.M. Scare: A Very Busy Weekend for Police

PPD Night

From a gas station complaint involving condoms to late-night power tools and a tense bar call, officers had a weekend filled with calls that ran the gamut from awkward to alarming.

Overcharged — and Over It — at EZ Stop

Police were called to the EZ Stop on 11th Street after a woman reported she had been overcharged for fuel — and condoms and wanted to make a report.

By the time officers arrived, however, the caller had already left the scene. After reviewing the situation, police determined the issue was civil in nature, meaning it wasn’t a criminal matter. No report was taken, and no charges were filed — but the call easily earned a spot as one of the weekend’s most unusual.

Midnight Saws Spark Burglary Fears

Later that night around 11:30 p.m., a resident on Sunrise Avenue called police after hearing saws and observing people carrying a door out of a home on Kenroe Street.

Officers responded expecting a possible break-in, only to discover a very different emergency. The homeowner explained they were dealing with a leaking toilet pipe and were making urgent repairs under the floor.

Police advised the homeowner about the city’s noise ordinance and explained that any further complaints would require the work to stop until morning.

Bar Call Ends Without Charges

In the early morning hours, officers were dispatched to Frank & Steins Lounge around 2 a.m. for a report that a man had assaulted a woman and forced her into a truck.

After investigating, police found the male driver was sober and cooperative. The female involved was highly intoxicated and initially uncooperative, but ultimately told officers she was not assaulted, was not forced into the vehicle, and wanted to go home with the driver — her fiancé.

Family members arrived and offered to take her instead, but she refused, again stating she wanted to leave with her fiancé. Officers observed no signs of injury on either party, and no charges were filed.
