The Franklin County Coroner has completed its investigation into the tragic death of SOCF Corrections Officer Lt. Rodney Osborne at a training facility back in April.
According to the autopsy report, Osborne died of a gunshot wound, despite the fact he was wearing a bulletproof vest because the bullet fired from the weapon of another state employee hit him just above the vest.
At the time, the ODRC called the incident a tragic accident. However, the Ohio State Patrol said it was investigating the incident as a reckless homicide, and ODRC placed a special operations commander on leave pending the results of the investigation.
Osborne was a long-time employee of ODRC and the commander of SOFC’s Special Response Team. He was survived by a wife and children.
