Scioto County Commissioners authorized paying nearly $20,000 for electronic monitoring of folks under court supervision in November and January.

For November 2023, the bill was $10,396 for 717 days of monitoring with $0 being paid by defendants for the program cost. The November bill had been overlooked last year and not submitted to Commissioners, though the December bill was submitted and paid.

For January 2024, the cost was $9,976 for 688 days of monitoring, with $404 in costs paid by defendants, leaving a total of $49,572.

On the bright side, the county saw a rise in December sales tax.

Scioto County collected almost $428,000 in sales tax last December.

Local sales tax totaled $421,047.  The actual sales were $842,113.  The total was $1,263,161. This was up $41,299 from December of 2022.

“That’s a good outlook,” Commissioner Cathy Coleman said.

Commissioner Bryan Davis said that almost canceled out the decline from the previous November, though revenue was running about $4,000 lower for 2023 than 2022.
