COVID-19 Restrictions Lifted Too Early?
Most of the United States is currently facing a meteoric rise in coronavirus cases, and because of this, recent data has indicated that American citizens believe that state and federal governments lifted their COVID-19 restrictions to quickly. This information comes to us from our Media Association Partners at the Pew Research Center in Washington, D.C.
Approximately 69% of American adults are concerned that state governments have been lifting restrictions too fast. Only 30% were concerned that state restrictions were being lifted too slow. This data is very similar to research performed in May and April, where 68% of citizens were concerned about the haphazard lifting of restrictions.
In addition to concerns over restrictions, the Pew Research Center also reported that 73% of Americans stated that the best one to help the economy is to slow the spread of the virus, whereas 26% believe that the best way is to fully reopen, regardless of spikes in infection.
This data strongly points to the negative opinion of the American government response to the pandemic, and specifically the response of President Donald Trump and his staff. While Republicans were much more likely to positively respond to the survey, only 22% of Republicans and right-leaning independents agreed that the United States has responded better than most first-world countries.
While this data may not represent the views of all Americans, it certainly is effective in establishing the general attitude Americans currently have regarding their government’s response to the coronavirus.
