Portsmouth Police responded to a report of cows on the loose at the Dollar General and a Portsmouth man died after a fall. We break down the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Briefing.


What’s That Noise?

Officers answered a call to Stepping Stones on 2nd Street at 2:10 am. A caller reported she heard someone down in the basement. Several units responded to the scene to check. Officers said there was no one inside or out of the building.

At 2:7 am, a Jackson Avenue caller reported strange noises on her porch. She suspected someone of messing around out there. Police checked the scene 5 minutes later and saw no signs of a problem.

Cows On The Loose

Just before 10 am, officers responded to a report of cows loose on Harding venue near the Dollar General.

Officers spoke to a Bonser Avenue resident who said she knew the owner of the animal and would notify them they were on the loose.

Hey! That’s My Stuff

A 2nd Street caller reported a busted out truck windows just before noon. The truck was parked in a lot across from the Brew Pub.

Suspicious Activity

Officers responded to Kent Street for a report of a suspicious man with a gas can hanging around vehicles. Police detained the man and read him his right. He told them he was on the way to his own vehicle. They also talked to a nearby resident who suspected the man took their mail.

Under The Influence

A caller reported a possible OD on Summit Street just after 3 pm. When police arrived, he told them he was fine.

Officers answered a call about a may lying in a Summit Street alley at 3:39 pm. He refused treatment.

Jumped By His Sons

Police responded to a report from a man that his two sons jumped him on Waller Street at 3:15 pm. An ambulance came to the scene. Officers took information for a report.

Handicapped Parking Only

We’ve told you the past few weeks about issues with folks parking on the grass on 17th Street in Wayne Hills.

The PMHA Security Director asked officers to crack down on parking in the grass and those violating handicapped parking rules.

Officers spoke to the owners to cars found parked in the mud, on the grass, and in a handicapped spot.

Worried Sister

A woman contacted police about a custody concern just before 4:30 pm. She told police she has custody of her 13-year-old brother and has for the past two years. However, her father was on his way from Kentucky to attempt to pick up the boy.

Officers advised her that if she had legal custody, her father cannot take the boy. They told her to call when he showed up.

When he arrived at 8:22 pm, officers discovered no one had any court documentation about the custody. They permitted the father to take the boy back to Kentucky. The woman said she would attempt to obtain the proper paperwork and regain custody.

Who Let The Dog Out

At 5:42 pm, a Mabert Road caller reported that a dog ran off a porch and bit two people. The dog was currently unattended.

Animal control contacted the owner of the dog.

Man Dies After Fall

A Logan Street man died after he had a seizure, fell, and hit his head. EMS and Police answered a call to the scene at 8:34 pm.

An ambulance transported the man to the hospital. Officers contacted family members and transported them to the hospital to see the deceased and make arrangements.
