CPS, SVU Called After Child Stops Breathing

Child Protective Services and the Special Victims Unit were called into action after a child stopped breathing, and neighbors fight over a cat. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Suspicious Activity

Cat Fight

Officers responded to Baird Avenue at 9:37 am for a harassment report. A woman said her neighbor continually harassed her by taking photos of the plates on her vehicle and recording her. The woman claimed not to know why.

 Police discovered it was related to a civil issue regarding a cat.

About an hour later, the angry neighbor demanded police take a theft report about the cat. He said that on the 25th of July, someone took his cat without his permission and now refuses to give it back. The cat is not microchipped.

He claimed that the cat was last seen at Walmart in New Boston. Police documented the incident. 


Under The Influence

Caught in the Act

Officers caught a burglar in the act on 6th Street just before 2 pm. Police found him inside a residence and took him into custody.

Egged On

At 4 pm, a caller reported a group of kids egged her car at the corner of 17th Street and Kendall. 

Police observed no damage to the vehicle. 

Child Stops Breathing – CPS, SVU Respond

At 4:30 pm, police responded to Glen Avenue for a report of a child not breathing. Officer impounded some unidentified substances at the scene and contacted CPS.

Officers then contacted the prosecutor and special victim’s unit and transported the mother to the police station for questioning. They later took her home.
