CPS Takes Baby After Mom Busted For Fentanyl Trafficking – $70,000 in Drugs Seized

CPS stepped in to take custody of a 4-month-old baby after its mom was busted during a drug raid at a PMHA Apartment on Union Street on Tuesday evening.

Just before 6 pm, members of the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force, assisted by members of PPD SWAT, raided the apartment in the 1300 block of Union Street.

Investigators found more than two pounds of fentanyl, along with crack cocaine, digital scales, and a loaded gun in the residence.

Officers summoned CPS workers to the scene to take custody of a 4-month-old baby after they arrested its mother, 25-year-old Hope Bentley. Police charged Bentley with drug trafficking, possession of drugs, and having a weapon under disability. This was Bentley’s fourth trip to the Scioto County Jail.  Police previously arrested her on assault and contempt charges.

Also arrested was Dayton resident, Reginald Lanford, 29. Police likewise charged Langford with trafficking, possession of drugs, and having weapons under a disability, as well as a parole violation. Langford was released on parole back in July after serving time for an assault conviction.

Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman and Portsmouth Police Chief Debby Brewer said the case will be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office and that additional charges may be filed.
