CPS Takes Kids After Woman Overdoses in Syringe-Filled Room

Portsmouth Police, EMS, and Scioto County CPS Workers responded to a home on Micklethwaite Road after a report of an overdose just before 11 am. The female victim overdosed on fentanyl, and people on the scene were attempting CPR.

By the time EMS arrived, she was in full code. There was also a second overdose victim on the scene, so officers called for another ambulance.

Police said they found 15-20 syringes in the room where the woman overdosed. Officers photographed the scene and disposed of the needles in a sharps container.

Sadly, there were multiple children on the scene. PPD sent for CPS, and a local mental health worker waited with the children until someone arrived to take custody. Police praised the woman for lending them a hand at the chaotic scene.

When an officer checked in on the status of the OD victim, the hospital said the woman still had a heartbeat, but very low blood pressure.

CPS arrived on the scene and took custody of the children. The investigation is ongoing.
