A routine afternoon took a turn for the worse for one local driver after a crash on Fifth Street led to his arrest for OVI.
The incident unfolded just after 4 p.m. when Portsmouth Police arrived at the scene of the wreck and took Jason McCleese into custody on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Officers arranged for his vehicle to be towed and impounded before transporting him to the Portsmouth Police Station for processing.
However, McCleese’s bad day didn’t end there. When officers attempted to book him into the Scioto County Jail, staff refused to admit him without medical clearance due to the crash. EMS was called to evaluate him, and after issuing a citation, officers ordered McCleese to appear in court the following morning at 9 a.m.
A HISTORY OF TROUBLE ON THE ROAD
This isn’t McCleese’s first run-in with the law. Just the day before, police cited him for a headlight violation, and in June, he was caught driving with a suspended license. Over the past decade, he has racked up nearly a dozen charges, including multiple traffic violations and repeated instances of driving without a valid license.
McCleese will now have to answer for his latest offense in court as authorities continue their efforts to keep impaired drivers off the road.
