Police and deputies caught up with the woman in Ironton and the deputy noted the woman reeked of alcohol. She admitted that she’d been drinking and explained to the officer she’d just gotten out of the hospital after two weeks and wanted to take her son to a birthday party at her family’s home.
Her child’s father took the tags off his car to prevent her from driving while drunk. The woman put her toddler in the car without a child seat and then locked the doors, and attempted to leave.
The child’s father busted out the car windows and unlocked the door to prevent her from leaving. Lawrence County deputies said they couldn’t charge the woman with driving while intoxicated because they never saw her drive the vehicle. Officers left the child in the care of its father.
