Dad in Tears: ‘I’m Scared in My Own Home’

Dad in tears over son's abuse

A father broke down in tears while talking to deputies about his adult son, saying he and his wife were afraid to sleep because they never knew what might happen if they told him no.

Deputies responded to a heated domestic dispute in Proctorville and initially received conflicting information about where the son had gone. They eventually found him sitting in a chair inside the home.

The man initially said he didn’t know why deputies were there but eventually agreed to come outside and talk.

According to the sheriff’s report, he admitted that he had been angry, slammed a door and screamed at his parents.

His father described a much more troubling situation.

He told deputies his son had been tearing things up throughout the day and that the family had asked him to leave. The father also alleged his son had drawn back his fist during the confrontation.

The father said the problems had been going on for some time and that he and his wife were constantly worried about what their son might do if they refused to give him what he wanted.

He also alleged his son had been taking his wife’s Xanax.

The situation was especially frightening for the father because he was scheduled to undergo surgery the following day and said he did not believe he was physically capable of defending himself or his wife if the situation became violent.

According to the deputy, the father was in tears as he explained that he hated having to involve law enforcement but had reached the point where he feared what could happen inside his own home.

He told the deputy he believed his son needed help.

The portion of the sheriff’s report provided does not indicate whether an arrest was made or what happened after deputies interviewed the family.
