Dad Livestreams Hotel Meltdown — Son Begs Police Not to Take Him to Jail

A family dispute at a hotel took a frightening turn when a mother told deputies her son’s father was seeing people under the bed and climbing the walls outside their room. The man, meanwhile, was livestreaming the encounter with police — and kept filming as an officer repeatedly ordered him to step into the hallway. His young son began crying and screaming because he didn’t want his dad to go to jail. A Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputy was called to Comfort Suites to assist EMS with a possible mental health crisis. A woman directed the deputy to a second-floor room, saying her son was inside with his father and that the man was seeing things. She said all she wanted to do was lie down and go to sleep. Inside the room, the deputy found the father and son sitting on a bed. The father accused the woman of hitting him. She denied it and said the dispute began when she tried to take his phone. According to her account, he pushed or tripped her, causing her to fall and cut her leg, while he fell and struck his mouth on a dresser. The parents continued arguing in front of their son until the deputy told them to stop. ‘Tell My Live to Call 911’ The deputy reported that the father was streaming the encounter on his phone and showing his son to viewers while officers tried to sort out what had happened. When the deputy asked him to step aside, the man continued filming and repeatedly said he knew his rights. The deputy read him his Miranda rights, then asked him to step out of the room. According to the report, the man refused several orders to leave the room and told people watching his livestream to call 911. The deputy warned him that he could be arrested if he continued refusing to cooperate. When the man still would not leave, the deputy attempted to take him into custody. The boy began screaming as the deputy escorted his father into the hallway. The deputy reported that the man continued turning toward him as they walked to the elevator. A handcuff became caught on the man’s watchband, but the deputy was able to free it and secure him. EMS later checked the man for injuries. Mother Says Father Saw People Under the Bed After the arrest, the deputy returned to the hotel room to take the mother’s statement. She said she had come back to the hotel wanting to go to bed, but the father became convinced she was trying to kill him. She reported that he said people were hiding under the bed and climbing the outside wall to look through the windows. She also said he would not allow her to turn off the television or lights. When she tried to take the remote, she alleged, he tripped her and she injured her leg. The deputy asked the child about what his father had been saying. The boy confirmed that his father had talked about people under the bed and climbing the wall outside the window. The father was transported to the Lawrence County Jail. The report says the case was closed by arrest.
