Dad Says Kids Living in Bedbug Infested Home

A homeless shelter resident reported an alleged sex offense and a dad says kids are living in a bug-infested hellhole. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily briefing.

Stranger at My Door

A Farley Court resident reported a strange woman banging on his door at 3:20 am. Police said she appeared to have some type of mental issues.

Officers advised her to leave the scene.

The resident reported that she returned 2 hours later and resumed banging on the door. Officers could not locate her.

Sex Offense at Homeless Shelter

A female resident of the 17th Street homeless shelter reported a sex offense just before 4 am.

She told officers she went into an employee’s room to ask for a pop but felt dizzy and sat down on his bed. She claimed the man kissed her and she told him it was inappropriate and returned to her room.

The woman said she wanted to leave the shelter but the employee told her residents can’t leave after 9 pm. But when she said she wanted to go to the crisis center, he allowed her to leave.

The man said most of the story was true, but he did not kiss the woman. He said she came into his room after having a nightmare.

The woman told police she no longer wanted to go to the crisis center and just didn’t want to talk to the employee anymore. Officers advised her to contact the shelter’s administration if she had any complaints.

Suspicious Activity

Just after 8 am, a caller reported a man dressed all in black standing near the CVS yelling.

About an hour later, the Dollar Tree on 5th Street reported a man in black sitting on the ground in front of the store cussing and screaming at people.

Dad Reports Kids Living in Bedbug Infested Home

A worried dad asked police to perform a welfare check on children living in a Thomas Avenue Apartment. The man said his daughter told him there were bedbugs, other bugs, and mice everywhere in the house and that she’d caught head lice.

The father said he was waiting for a callback from the Health Department and CPS. Officers went to the home but there was no answer at the door.
