On the morning of July 3, 2024, at 10:24 a.m., the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol received a report of a motorcycle crash on SR 124 in Pike County.
The accident involved Caelem M. Knauff, 24, of Waverly, Ohio. Mr. Knauff was traveling eastbound on SR 124 on his 2023 Kawasaki KLR650.
After cresting a small hill, he braked hard, causing the motorcycle to slide and strike a guardrail. Despite wearing a helmet, Mr. Knauff succumbed to his injuries. No other vehicles were involved.
Several local agencies assisted at the scene, including the Benton Township Fire Department, Portsmouth Ambulance, and the Pike County Coroner’s Office.
