Deamie Adkins, of Lucasville, Ohio passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021, after fighting several medical issues. She was a long time member of Rubyville Community Church. She was a volunteer at Heartland of Portsmouth for several years. She and her husband were 4-H advisors, and even though she was legally blind she enjoyed many activities from gardening to bowling. Deamie was a mother of four children, and also raised 3 of her grandchildren.

Deamie was proceeded in death by her husband, Eugene E Adkins, whom she married on October 6, 1955. A grandson, Nathan L Adkins, whom she raised; her parents, Herman Russell and Beatrice Howard Russell; seven brothers, Alfred, Garland, Winford, Milford, Bueford, James, and Joseph Russell, and one sister, Mildred Russell Clark.

She is survived by her children, Luana (Jeanie) Shipp of Lucasville, Charles Adkins (Glenda) of West Portsmouth, Timothy Adkins (Karen) of Lucasville, Shawn Adkins of Lucasville; 10 grandchildren, William Ruby, Dee Ruby, Amanda Jeffords, Sherry Wicker, Christopher Adkins, Joshua Adkins, Timyatha Adkins, Jessica Adkins, Melissa Adkins, Benjamin Adkins, William and Benjamin both were raised by Deamie; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Jarrell of Portsmouth, and many nieces and nephews. Four of Deamie’s nieces she lived with and helped raised whom she referred to as her 1st children, Norma Flinders, Neva Rackavan, Nina Queen, and Naomi Shelpman.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at Rubyville Community Church with Pastors Calvin Ray Evans and Brian Baer officiating. Burial will be at Rubyville Community Church Cemetery. Friends may call at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
