Discipline or Danger? Grandma Accused of Going Too Far in Punishing Child

A father is raising serious concerns about his daughter’s well-being after what he claims was a disturbing episode of discipline gone too far — at the hands of her grandmother. The father met with deputies at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office to file an official report alleging child abuse during a recent visit with the children’s maternal grandmother. The incident reportedly occurred while the children were staying with their mother, who shares custody with the father under a current court order. According to the father, his daughter confided in him on June 13th — shortly after he picked up the children from their mother’s South Point home — and told him that while her mom was away for two to three days, the children were left under the care of their grandmother. During that time, the girl claims grandma placed her hand over her mouth so forcefully that she had trouble breathing and couldn't speak. The child also alleged that her grandmother struck her on the arms, legs, and buttocks. Though the father told police he did not observe any visible bruises or injuries at the time, he was disturbed enough by the disclosure to report the incident and alert authorities. When deputies attempted to interview the child in her father's presence, she became shy and refused to speak about the alleged abuse. 👵 When Does "Old-School" Discipline Cross the Line?
