A troubling social media post led to a police welfare check at a Portsmouth apartment after a concerned relative contacted authorities about the safety of a woman and her children.
Officers were dispatched after the caller reported seeing a disturbing Facebook message and feared something might be wrong inside the home.
When police arrived, they spoke with a man at the residence who told officers the woman in question was not home and that the children were currently in the custody of Children’s Services (CPS).
Police noted the mother had previously been arrested last year on a charge of child endangering, adding to the concern surrounding the situation.
Post Raises Alarm
The man admitted he was the one who made the concerning Facebook post but told officers he was not suicidal and had no plans to harm himself.
Officers offered to:
- Connect him with local mental health services
- Arrange transportation to the hospital for evaluation
He declined assistance at that time.
