Dog Caged & Left In The Cold

Portsmouth Police officers came to the aid of a dog locked in a cage and left out in the cold and an impatient patient shoulder-checked a security guard at SOMC. We’ve got the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

No Place To Go

Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at Kroger at 1:39 am. The caller said a guy was passed out in a running vehicle.

Police found the man awake and playing with his phone. He told them he had to place to go and was just keeping warm in the car. Police suggested he head to a homeless shelter or warming station.

Officers checked back in on the guy several times and also tried to make contact with the registered owner of the car to make sure she knew where the car was.

GTA

Police received a report of a stolen vehicle just after 9:30 am on Kent Street. The vehicle was missing but the car keys were still in the house.

Officers took information for a report.

Man Down

Officer responded to Wayne Avenue for a report of a man lying on the ground moaning and cussing. Callers said he’d been at it for about an hour.

An ambulance transported him to SOMC.

Kendall Avenue Confidential

Just after 11:33 am, officers answered a call to the Speedway on Gallia. A man complained about a guy yelling threats at him from from the Royal Inn.

He said he called the police on the guy when he saw him beat on a girl the previous week. He claimed the guy and the woman he’d assaulted were both at the Woodbine Apartments.

Police went to the apartment number he gave them but there didn’t seem to any problem and the residents claimed not to know what he was talking about.


Road Rage

At 12:32 pm, a caller complained to police that a man attempted to run him off the road earlier in the day. Police said it appeared to be connected to a road rage incident on Grandview.

Stripping Down On Gallia

Just after 2 pm, officers received a report of a man dancing around acting like he was trying to take his clothes off near the Silver Palace on Gallia.

Bystanders attempted to keep the man from going into the street. By the time police arrived, so had family members. They got the guy in a car and said they would take him home.

Officer was called to SOMC for a report of a patient in the ER shoulder checking a security guard just before 9 pm.

The man was unhappy without how long it was taking to get treatment. However, he’d left the scene by the time police arrived and they were not able to locate him.

Dog Caged In The Cold

Police responded to a report of a dog in danger just after 10 pm on Spring Street.

A pit bull was locked in a small cage in the front yard without food or water. A neighbor had contacted animal control about the issue.

Officers observed there was no food or water in the bowls inside the sheltered cage. The resident told police she feeds the animal in the morning and evening.

Police told the woman, she should bring the dog inside for the night due to the cold weather.
