A citizen contacted Portsmouth Police Officers at 9:29 am to report an incident at the Dollar General Store on Gallia Street just before 9:30 am.
The caller said an employee was currently chasing a suspected shoplifter at the location. The suspect was described as wearing a zip-up hoodie and a mask. Police took information for a report.
Later that night, at 9:19 pm, a Dollar General employee flagged down an officer to report a shoplifter had just fled the store and ran in the direction of 6th and Offnere.
The employee said the man stole laundry items, Body Armor drinks, and clothing. The man got on a bicycle with a basket of items in hand and headed south.
Officers told the employee to call them if the man returns.
