Dolly Jean Skaggs, 90, passed away Friday January 16, 2026, peacefully and surrounded by a handful of her many loved ones. She was born on September 29, 1935 in Davis Port KY, and grew up a Mollett in the hills of Franklin Furnace, OH. A pillar of quiet strength and steady hands, Dolly served as a midwife, welcoming countless babies into the world in the comfort and safety of their family homes.
She also looked after children, big and small, her whole life. For generations, Dolly was not only a caregiver, but also a trusted and respected guide through all of life’s moments, from assisting with the sacred act of birth to being the listening ear on the other end of the phone line while she sat in her little house on the hill, providing her undying love and support no matter the distance. Known as Nana to many, Dolly was known for her remarkable memory, famous for remembering dates, and making sure that no occasion went unnoticed. She would faithfully send out cards and make phone calls, a heartfelt reminder of love and memory to their recipients. Her Nana Biscuits were legendary, baked homemade with love and care, just like the quilts she stitched for her loved ones, bringing warmth and comfort, like Dolly herself.
Dolly was a devoted Christian, attending church faithfully for many years at Sandhill Christian Baptist Church and Camp Bennett.
Her life has truly been a testament to devotion, selfless service, and faith, and her legacy lives on in the many lives she has touched, from the babies she helped bring into this world to the generations who have witnessed her love and life firsthand. Married to the late love of her life, Raymond Oscar Skaggs, in the spring of 1957, they had four children: Richard Skaggs, Rita Elrod (William), Sandra Crum (Kenneth), and Tammy Nordgren (Michael). They gave her fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and many many great great-grandchildren. She is reunited with her husband, her son and his daughters, Lindsay and Kristina, her parents Judy Sesco and Hermey Mollett, and her brothers, Parmal, Parma, Donald, Randy, and James in Heaven.
Surviving siblings are Ann Burchett (Hal), Geraldine Callahan, Parker Mollett (Mary), Glen Mollett (Brenda), and Paul Mollett (Rowena).Visitation will be from 11am-1pm on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg OH. Service will follow at 1pm with Pastor Rick Mollett officiating. Afterward, Dolly Jean will be brought to her final resting place in her family cemetery.
