Domestic Violence Victim Won’t Press Charges

A domestic violence victim refused to press charges and clerks were assaulted by nail polish wielding customers.  We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Domestic Violence Victim Doesn’t Want Charges

Just after noon, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office told PPD a woman was screaming on the line that she needed the police. 

When officers responded to the scene, they discovered a woman with a red mark on her face. She told police her child’s father hit her and knocked off her glasses before fleeing the scene.

She told police she did not want to press charges. Officers took a photo of the injury and filed a report with Portsmouth Municipal Court in hopes of the court filing charges. 

Officers also gave the woman a phone number for a domestic violence shelter. 

Crash Takes Out Lights on Gallia

A truck backed into a pole behind the Silver Palace on Gallia just after 3 pm. Traffic lights and electricity were out for about 20 minutes before they were restored.

An hour later, another driver hit a pole in the parking lot of Little Caesar’s Pizza. There were no injuries. 

Under the Influence

Portsmouth Police Officer assisted Portsmouth Ambulance medics on a drug-related call just before 4 pm. The ambulance transported the man to the hospital. 

Hit and Run

Just after 5 pm, a driver reported a hit and run at 8th Street and Chillicothe. The driver said a gray GMC truck hit his vehicle on the east side of Staker’s and then left the scene. 

Gunshots Reported on Summit Street

A caller reported hearing 5 gunshots in the 2100 block of Summit Street just before 5:30 pm. Police did not find anything suspicious. 

Suspicious Activity

A 20th Street caller reported people with flashlights inside a vacant home in the 2000 block of 20th Street. The caller also spotted a car with a Kentucky tag outside the home.

Officers contacted the owner who advised them that the people had permission to be inside the home. 

Welfare Check

Worried family members asked officers to check on a woman. They hadn’t heard from her in some time and were concerned because she’d recently had domestic issues with her husband. 

Police went to the address provided just before 7 pm. The people living at the home said she no longer lives there. However, the man did give the police a description of her vehicle and said he’d call the police if she returned. 

Clerks Menaced By Nail Polish Wielding Customers

Just after 9 pm, police responded to a silent panic alarm at the Quick top on Gay Street. 

When police arrived on the scene, clerks told them a man and woman pulled up to the window, cursed at an employee, and then threw nail polish at him. The nail polish hit the brick wall outside the drive-through window.

The pair also claimed to have a weapon. The employees at the store did not see any weapon and the pair did not directly threaten the employees.
