Donald Edward Gullett, 73, of South Shore, KY., passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH. He was born in Lynn, KY., on January 6, 1951, a son of the late Buford and Lettie Brown Gullett.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Jack Gullett; and two sisters, Joyce Stevens and Betty Coomer.
Don was a graduate of McKell High School. He held the state record for most points scored in a high school football game, 72 points; High School All-State in Football, Baseball, and Basketball; 4-time World Series Champion, 2 with the Cincinnati Reds and 2 with the New York Yankees, then was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2002. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and helping others. Most of all he was a family man who loved spending time with his grandkids.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife and best friend of 54 years, Cathy Holcomb Gullett; one son, Donald (Melissa) Gullett JR of Cincinnati, OH; two daughters, Tracey Rapp of Harrodsburg, KY., and Angie (Mark) Defoe of South Portsmouth, KY; one brother, Bill Gullett; three sisters, Faye Pence, Bessie Claxson and Debbie Leadingham; five grandchildren, Abbey, Connor, Mya, Ava, Lincoln and several other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Visitation for the public will be Sunday, February 18, 2024, from 1 P.M. until 5 P.M. at McKell Middle School 129 Bulldog Lane South Shore, KY., 41175.
Funeral services for close friends and family will be at 1 P.M. Monday, February 19, 2024, at Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY., with Pastor Kenny Martin III officiating. Visitation on the day of the funeral for close friends and family will be from 12 P.M. until the service hour. Burial will follow at MT Zion Cemetery.
