DoorDash Account Dispute Leads Deputies to Wanted Man

A dispute over a DoorDash account and missing money took an unexpected turn when deputies discovered the man they were talking to was already wanted on an unrelated warrant. The complaint began in the Proctorville area, where a woman told a Lawrence County deputy she had allowed a man to use her DoorDash account to make deliveries. According to the sheriff's report, she said the arrangement was that he would pay her $100 a week for using the account. She told the deputy the man owed her $177 and that she had not given him permission to order food for himself through the account. The man gave deputies a different version. He reportedly said he could not DoorDash under his own name because he did not have a driver's license, so the woman allowed him to use her account. He said he paid her $100 a week and claimed she knew he sometimes used money from the account to buy food while he was working. Deputies did not make an arrest over the DoorDash money dispute. However, while investigating the complaint, they discovered the man had an active warrant through the county. He was arrested on that warrant and taken to the Lawrence County Jail. Don't Loan Out Your Delivery Account Whatever ultimately happened with the disputed $177, the case highlights a bigger problem with letting someone else use an account tied to your identity and money. DoorDash warns users to protect their account credentials. For Dashers in particular, the company says passwords and security codes should never be shared because access to an account can potentially allow someone to change banking information and redirect earnings. DoorDash also advises customers to watch for unfamiliar orders, unexpected messages from delivery drivers, or email and password changes they didn't make. Those can be signs that someone else has gained access to an account. A few basic precautions can save a lot of trouble: Don't share your password or verification codes. DoorDash says its support representatives will not ask for them. Use a unique password that you aren't also using for your email or other important accounts. Pay attention to new-device alerts. DoorDash says it sends customers an email when it detects a login from a new device. Change your password immediately if you see activity you don't recognize, and contact DoorDash Support if you believe the account has been compromised. Check payment and banking information. Dashers who believe an account has been compromised should make sure their payout information hasn't been changed. There's another practical lesson in this particular police report: letting someone work under an account connected to your name can get messy very quickly when money goes missing or the two people disagree about what was authorized
