Doris Jean Workman, 85, of Portsmouth, passed away at her home on Saturday, January 18, 2025. She was born in Portsmouth on December 13, 1939, a daughter of the late Emogene Adkins Williams and Edgar Gore, Jr.
On September 23, 1954, she married Stanley Edward Workman, Sr. in Portsmouth. The couple had been married 56 years at the time of his death on November 1, 2010.
Doris received her LPN certification from the former Shawnee State Community College, and she worked as an LPN at Golden Years Convalescent Center, later, Bridgeport 360, for 39 years. Doris was proud to have been voted “Best Nurse” in the first Portsmouth Daily Times “Best in Scioto County” readers’ poll. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Sue Workman; her brother, James Maurice Gore; and her best friend, Sharon McCoy.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Allison Bauer officiating. The Nurse Honor Guard of the River Cities will honor Mrs. Workman for her many years in the nursing profession immediately prior to the service. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
