Dorothy “Dot” Bauer

Dorothy “Dot” Bauer, passed away peacefully at Hill View Retirement Center on Thursday, December 28, 2023.  She is at peace now with her Lord and Savior and all of her loved ones who have gone on before her.

Dot was born in Wheelersburg to Herschel and Louise Filkins Schisler on April 1, 1937. 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Homer F. Yates, and her second husband, Carl Bauer.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Schisler, Ralph Schisler, Paul Schisler, and Mark Schisler, and a sister in infancy, Elizabeth Schisler.

Surviving are her two sons, Doug (Robin) Yates of Sciotoville and Craig (Cathy) Yates of Lexington, KY; two granddaughters, Kayla (T.J.) Chinn and Anne (John) Nisbet, all of Lexington; three grandsons, Tyler Paugh of Canal Winchester, Kyle Paugh of Pataskala and Ryan Paugh of South Webster; seven great-grandchildren, Emerson, Tate, Elijah and Evie Chinn, Scarlett Jo Nisbet, Landon Paugh and Noah Paugh; two brothers, Roy Schisler of Cleveland, TN and Don (Cindy) Schisler of The Villages, FL; three sisters, Ruth Powers of Montgomery, WV, Wanda Grieder of Wauseon and Linda (Ron) Niner of Minford and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who love her dearly.

Dot was a special person to so many people.  Her humor and music she brought to her family and the churches she attended will not be forgotten.  She was a member of the Swauger Valley Free Will Baptist Church where she served as pianist and accompanist and also attended Antioch Free Will Baptist Church where she served as their pianist.

She was a former employee of Marting’s Department Store and Millhuff’s Super Market.

The most precious thing to Dot on this earth was her family and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The family would like to thank all of those who were Dot’s caregivers in the last few years.  Dot’s niece and her husband, Kristi and Chris Riley for their loving care to Dot for several years before she entered Hill View and all the staff at Hill View who lovingly cared for Dot the last two years.

A Celebration of Dot’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4th at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor Craig Yates officiating.  The interment will be in South Webster Cemetery.

The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
