Deputies responded to reports at multiple local discount stores. Just before 5 p.m., a woman contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office about an incident at the Wheelersburg Dollar Tree.
She said her daughter put her phone down on a shelf and walked away and the phone was gone when she went back. The daughter saw a man leave the store in a hurry.
Store security checked the cameras and gave officers the name of the person who left the store. Police took information for a report.
About 10 minutes later, a caller from the Wheelersburg Dollar General said a man kept going in and out of the store and hollering at people. The caller feared the man was intoxicated.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they said the man had been in the store but hadn’t bothered anyone. Another witness said the man had asked for a cigarette and left when he gave him one.
