Drunk, Stranded, and Dialing 911: Wheelersburg Night Spirals Into Hours-Long Standoff

What began as a late-night visit between two people who’d both been drinking unraveled into a confusing, hours-long series of 911 calls that kept deputies bouncing back to the same driveway well into the early morning hours. Just after 2 a.m., a man called 911 saying he used to live at the residence and had been invited over by a woman earlier in the evening. He told deputies both had been drinking, but things took a turn when the woman began claiming he had broken into the home. The man said he had been there since around 9:30 p.m. and was now stranded in the driveway because he had been drinking and didn’t want to drive. He also claimed the woman was calling other people and threatening to have them “do things” to him. When deputies arrived, the woman refused to come to the door or speak with them. Deputies advised the man that because he lived at the residence, he was legally allowed to enter—but he said he didn’t feel comfortable doing so and instead chose to sleep in his car with the heater running. Calls Keep Coming About an hour later, deputies were back after the man called 911 again, claiming the woman had come outside and threatened to falsely report him for driving intoxicated—even though he said he had never left the vehicle. Once again, the woman refused to come to the door. Around 3:30 a.m., the woman herself called 911 asking to speak with a deputy. Dispatch advised her that deputies had already tried twice to speak with her at the residence and that she had refused. She said she had been scared and thought the deputies at the door were the man. She was eventually connected with a deputy by phone. Then at 4:30 a.m., the man called yet again, this time claiming the woman was punching the windows of his car. When deputies returned, the woman initially refused to come to the door—again. This time, with a deputy present, the man called her directly, and she finally came outside. She told deputies she was upset because the man was breaking up with her and admitted she had taken his wallet. The man went inside to retrieve it. End of the Road Deputies conducted field sobriety tests on the man, who passed and showed no signs of intoxication. He blocked the woman on his phone and left the area, heading back to Plain City, Ohio, bringing the long night—and the repeated calls—to an end. No charges were filed. The incident serves as a reminder of how quickly alcohol, relationship conflict, and miscommunication can escalate into repeated emergency calls—tying up resources during overnight hours when deputies are often stretched thin.
