At the council’s organizational meeting on Tuesday, Council Representative Joey Sandlin nominated Gordon for the office Council Representative Dennis Packard nominated Mayor Sean Dunne.  Representatives Lyvette Mosely, Andy Cole, Charlotte Gordon, and Joey Sandlin voted in favor of Gordon. Dunne and Packard voted in favor of Dunne.

Fourth Ward Representative Lyvette Mosely will be Portsmouth’s Vice Mayor.

Gordon was re-elected to the 2nd Ward council seat back in November. Gordon, who also serves as the Artistic Director for the Southern Ohio Museum and Cultural Center, told SCDN she originally ran for the office because, at that time, the council wasn’t reflecting the positive energy of the city.  “I think that in the last four years, we’ve really changed that. I think that council is really echoing that vitality that we are seeing in all of the development and forward thinking we’re seeing in Portsmouth.”

Mayor Gordon thanked Dunne for his service as mayor. “As a council, we haven’t always agreed. But we have gotten a fair amount of work done for the city.”

She thanked her fellow council members for their confidence in her. “I accept it and promise to do the best of my abilities.”
