Elva Thompson, affectionately known as “Grandma Rosie” of Portsmouth Ohio, passed away at Bridgeport Healthcare Center on February 2, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Lon and Martha Butler Day.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Jim Thompson, a grandson, Steven Howard, a daughter-in-law, Dawn Thompson, 4 brothers, Gene, Charles, John, and Harold Day, 3 sisters, Pauline Day, Dixie Briggs, and Doris Thompson.
She is survived by her children, Doug Thompson of Oak Harbor, Dan Thompson of West Portsmouth, Babs (Chuck) Brickey of Grove City, Derek Thompson of Lehigh Acres, Florida, one brother, Howard Day of Lexington, Kentucky, 5 grandsons, Brent (Mary) Harper, Andy (Angie) Thompson, Chad (Sarah) Thompson, Travis (Taleri) Thompson, Chris (Tiffany) Howard, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Elva was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt and a friend to all who knew her. she will be truly missed by all. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.
