On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 2:42 PM, the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol received a call about an injury crash on State Route 139 near mile post 5.
Logan Alexander Etterling, 18, of Portsmouth, drove a 2011 Mazda 6 northeast on State Route 139. Jeffrey Levi Riley, 29, of Portsmouth, was driving on a suspended license in a 2010 Ford Escape Southwest on State Route 139.
The 2011 Mazda 6 drove left of center and struck the 2010 Ford Escape. Mr. Etterling succumbed to his injuries as a result of the crash at the scene. Mr. Riley was transported to Grant Medical Center, where he also died of his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Rubyville Fire Department, Clay Township Fire Department, Jefferson Township Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Scioto County Coroner’s Office.
