Fatal Crash on SR 348 Claims Life of 74-Year-Old Lucasville Man

A tragic accident claimed the life of a 74-year-old man in Union Township Thursday afternoon. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the collision occurred on SR 348 near Cooper Road at approximately 1:07 p.m. when a 2001 Chevrolet truck driven by Phillip Ernest Jackson, also of Lucasville, struck a farm tractor, resulting in a fatality.

According to the Highway Patrol, the Chevrolet truck was traveling eastbound on SR 348 when it collided with a farm tractor driven by Edward Cable of Lucasville. Both vehicles were headed in the same direction toward SR 348 when Cable reportedly attempted to turn left onto Martin Cemetery Road. As Cable initiated his turn, the truck attempted to pass on the left, leading to the collision.

Emergency responders from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Union Township Fire Department, and Union Squad 10 provided assistance at the scene. However, despite their efforts, Cable was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has confirmed that the investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing, with additional information expected as they continue to piece together details of the incident.

Jackson has been arrested for Hit-Skip and charged with a felony of the 2nd degree and has been incarcerated at the Scioto County Jail.
