Fight at Portsmouth Raceway Park Disqualifies Two Drivers

There was an altercation between a four-wheeler and a motorcycle after the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Portsmouth Raceway Park.

Heat 5 started with Brandon Sheppard from New Berlin, IL, and Chris Ferguson from Mount Holly, NC in the front row. In turn one, Ferguson jumped to the top. Sheppard briefly lost control and jumped the cushion.

Ferguson ended up winning heat 5 and was set to start 4th for the 100-lap DTWC.

Following the checkered flag, Ferguson drove back to the pit area and to the scales. At the same time, Mark Richards, who owns Brandon Sheppard’s car pulled alongside Ferguson’s vehicle.

Apparently, a crew member for Ferguson used his four-wheeler to cut off Mark Richards after he rode alongside the car for a bit.

This led to a physical altercation in the pit area. At least several crew members from both teams participated, according to witnesses.

In the hours that followed, it was announced that both drivers had been disqualified from the remainder of the race. Jimmy Owens won heat 5 after both of their finishing positions were removed.
