The Portsmouth Fire Department is once again helping local families make sure kids have something under the tree this Christmas.
Applications are now being accepted for the department’s Christmas gift assistance program.
Families can pick up an application at Central Station, 1529 Gallia Street in Portsmouth, and return completed forms there between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The deadline to turn applications in is November 27.
This year, the department is making a few changes to the process.
Applicants will need to provide proof of guardianship and proof of hardship.
The fire department also said its list will be compared with other local Christmas-assistance programs to help prevent duplicate applications.
That means families who are already receiving help through another organization may not be able to receive the same type of assistance twice.
Anyone with questions can contact Administrative Assistant Hannah Grimm at (740) 354-1200.
For families who need a little help making Christmas happen this year, the important thing is to get the paperwork in before the deadline.
