A 16-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital after friends learned he might be overdosing —and made sure someone called for help.
The alarm reached Scioto County from West Virginia, where an 18-year-old told a 911 dispatcher he was receiving calls and texts from friends who feared the boy was overdosing in Scioto County.
That call set deputies and EMS in motion shortly before 11:30 p.m.
When responders reached the teen, he was awake and told them he had been “smoking crack and drinking alcohol,” according to the sheriff’s log.
A deputy administered one dose of nasal Narcan supplied by the boy’s family. EMS then transported him to Southern Ohio Medical Center while deputies stayed at the scene to gather information.
The sheriff’s log does not provide an update on the teen’s condition or confirm what caused the suspected overdose.
His friends recognized that something was wrong and got help involved. Their calls helped bring emergency responders to the boy when he needed them.
