Friends of Portsmouth Hold Fourth of July Celebration

Friends Portsmouth Fourth July

As a part of Scioto County Daily News’ Fourth of July coverage, Betty Smith spoke with Bryan Smith, the Assistant Executive Director of Friends of Portsmouth, the local organization that hosted the Fireworks show at Spartan Stadium on the Fourth. During the interview, the two discussed the various details of the event and the expected turnout.

Partially through the interview, the duo was interrupted by a group called the “Fun Police”, who gifted Betty and Bryan with masks and provided them hand sanitizer. This group of citizens was there to ensure that the people who came to the stadium had a fun experience while also remaining safe throughout the night.

The hand sanitizer was donated by Doc Spartan in order to help keep everyone watching the fireworks safely. Signs were also put up around the stadium telling people to maintain social distancing in order to prevent spreading the virus during this event. Trash cans were also put up by the Friends of Portsmouth so that people could clean up after themselves and not litter in the stadium.

When asked what events the people of Portsmouth should be looking forward to, Bryan explained that on September 26th the Friends of Portsmouth plan on hosting a “Comedy Night” with comedians Henry Allen and two other comedians. It was originally planned for April but was rescheduled due to the pandemic. The event will be hosted at the Holiday Inn and a large turnout is expected.

The fireworks put on by the Friends of Portsmouth was a positive experience that allowed the community to come together in a safe way.
