Gail McElhaney Cropper Swick, 71, of Wheelersburg, passed away Monday, November 7, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born May 5, 1951, in Lexington, KY, the daughter of the late William and Nita (McElhaney) Cropper.
She was a graduate of McKell High School, the University of Kentucky with a BA in Education, and the University of Dayton with an MS in Education. She was a Spanish and French teacher for twenty-eight years at Green High School, New Boston High School, and Minford High School.
Gail was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Joseph Spencer Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and founding member and President of the Scioto Valley Volunteers Chapter US Daughters of 1812.
Gail is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Swick Jr.; a son, William Harrell Wood and wife Erica of Powell, a daughter Jennifer Erin Wood Shewring and husband Josef of Dublin; step-children, Robert Lee Swick III and wife Rhonda of Franklin Furnace and Robin Leigh Swick of Portsmouth; brothers, William Bradford Cropper, Jr. and Dwight Russell Cropper both of South Portsmouth, KY; grandchildren, James Bradford Wood, Katherine Elise Shewring, Anna Elizabeth Wood and Megan Riley Shewring.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, November 11, 2022, at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME IN WHEELERSBURG with Pastor Andy Ramey officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 PM and Friday from 10 to 11 AM at the funeral home.
