Gary Franklin “Gravy” Brown, 71, of Lucasville, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Born November 11, 1949, in Scioto County, a son of the late Frank E. and Jessie Mae (McGowan) Brown, he retired with the rank of Captain from Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, where he was known as “Gravy Brown”. He then worked for the Valley Local Schools as a bus driver. He was a member of Stockdale Baptist Church, where had served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and Treasurer.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona “Kitty” (Thompson) Brown; four children, Christopher Gene (Letitia) Brown of Lucasville, Rachael Mae (Chris) Mitchell of West Portsmouth, Rebecca Brown of Grayson, Kentucky, Joshua Brown and his fiancée Laura Leedom of Colorado Spring, Colorado; 10 grandchildren, Shaniah Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Isabella Brown, Melinda Rietz, Rachael Carter, Alexis Grafmyer, Miranda Kay Silcott, Calista Brown, Nicholas Brown, Makenzy Bosley; 6 great grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanie (Bob) Tieman of Lucasville, Denise Kearney of Lucasville; one brother, Charles (Debra) Brown of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-brother, William Merry.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Rick Evans officiating. Burial will be in Salisbury Cemetery near Stockdale. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
