Gilbert “Gib” Leroy Carver, Jr. 72 of Sciotoville

Gilbert “Gib” Leroy Carver, Jr. 72 of Sciotoville passed away Sunday, June 27 at SOMC Hospice Center following a long fight with cancer. A graduate of Wheelersburg High School, Gib was retired from the Scioto County Engineering Department where he served as Chief Deputy for many years. Gib was proud to be a US Navy Veteran where he served in the Vietnam War. He was an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed ham radio where he served as the Scioto County Amateur Radio Emergency Services Emergency Coordinator for several years. Gib also volunteered at the Scioto County Emergency Operations Center during emergencies in the community.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mildred Carver Smith and Gilbert L Carver, Sr. and one granddaughter Sydney Winchell. Surviving are his wife Kimberly; four daughters including Kelly Jo Schneider (Scott) of Lutz Florida, Heidi Winchell (Scott) of Shreve Ohio, Shellie (Kayla) Knight of Portsmouth, and Patricia (Joey) Bobinger of Maineville Ohio. He is also survived by one sister Brenda (Jim) Caldwell of Wheelersburg, seven grandchildren including Chris Carver, Ashley Audet and Allissa Audet; Dylan Winchell; Dayla Ballou, Neveah Knight and Elayna Knight; and Holly Bobinger, and nine great grandchildren.

Services will be held at the D.W. Swick Funeral Home-Wolfe Nelson Chapel in Sciotoville on Thursday July 1 at 11 AM with callers Wednesday June 30 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Burial will be at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg with graveside rights by the James Dickey Post of the American Legion. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to SOMC Hospice as they are very grateful for the services Hospice provided Gib the past year in his fight against his cancer.
