Ginger “Red” Smith, 54, of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born October 8, 1971 in Portsmouth, to the late John Fyffe and Darlene (Howland) Stone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Smith and sister and Joyce Smith, and a brother-in-law, Marvin Hall.
Ginger was a lifelong Browns Fan and a member of the Portsmouth Eagles #4285. She adored her grandbabies. She loved working with people and she enjoyed her home and sitting on her porch. Ginger loved living her life the way she wanted to live it.
Ginger is survived by her spouse of 40 years, James Herbert “Herbie” Braden, a daughter, Ashley Turner (Travis) of Lucasville, two grandchildren, Zed and Zoey Williams, three sisters, Tammy Dyke (Tommy) of Piketon, Donna Hall of Portsmouth, and Wendy Pherson of Portsmouth, and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, October 24, 2026 at the Portsmouth Eagles #4285 on 1630 Gallia Street, Portsmouth, starting at 12:00 PM. Melcher Hammer Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
