Going Above and Beyond: Portsmouth Police’s Heartfelt Welfare Check

A police welfare check on an elderly person often turns out to be quite sad and sometimes tragic. This is a story about the sweetest welfare check I’ve heard in a long while.

On Tuesday evening, Portsmouth Police were requested to conduct a welfare check on a man. His daughter, who lives out of town, had been trying to contact him for a few days without success. Concerned about her father, the daughter contacted the police to inquire about his well-being.

The man opened the door when the police arrived at the house to greet the officers. The police explained the reason for their visit to him.

The man explained that he had recently purchased a new cell phone. He was having trouble entering his contact information. When he changed phones, the salesperson failed to offer to do this for him.

Like most people, he didn’t have all the numbers written down. It was even difficult for him to access his email and social media because this new phone operation was still quite new to him.

He asked the officers to please contact his daughter and explain the situation. Additionally, the officer provided dispatch with her father’s new phone number so the daughter could speak to him immediately.
